COURSE TITLE: Computer Maintenance for Users COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course covers the techniques of maintaining a personal computer. The primary focus will be on IBM compatible computers but owners of other brands will get very useful information. There will be presentations showing proper procedure for cleaning disk drives and filters. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own computers for a preventative maintenance checkup. Tools and cleaning supplies will be provided for use during the class. The majority of the course will be used as hands on training to perfect techniques. TEXTBOOK: Lecture notes will be provided along with sources for tools and cleaning supplies. Other tools and materials will be provided for use in the classroom. DURATION OF COURSE: Four (4) hours - 1 session. CERTIFICATE: A certificate of completion will be emailed to each participant. SKILLS: The student will learn how to open the case of the computer and the proper procedure for cleaning the circuit boards, filters, floppy drives, CD/DVD/Blue Ray drives, keyboards, and monitor. Some techniques for laptops and netbooks will also be covered including cleaning flatscreens. The proper handling of circuit boards and components will be covered to allow the user to upgrade the computer without fear of damaging the system or components. This course will also show how to maintain your computer printers including dot matrix, daisy wheel, ink jet, and laser printers.
